「真の国際理解」を 促進する人材の育成
わが国において、経済や技術の分野では圧倒的な物量の国際交流が進展しているのに対して、外国語の十分な能力や多文化理解力を備えて活躍できる人材が不足しているのが実情です。経済、社会、文化の各分野の健全な国際交流のために、この分野における教育研究の発展が期待されています。
このような観点から、英米言語文化専攻は、国際語である英語を専門とする領域を対象として、英語の構造・機能を理解し、英語の運用能力を備えるとともに、英米文化や国際交流に理解のある人材を育成することを目的としています。なお、中学校・高等学校教諭の一種免許状（英語）を有する入学生は、専修免許状（英語）を取得することが可能です。
また、英米言語文化と国際教育の専攻を問わず、新しく小学校に導入された「外国語活動」を担当するのに必要な専門知識と英語の運用能力を修得することができます。
